\nSymptoms: Excessive blood from wound
\nTreatment: Dial 911. Have the injured person lie down. Wash your hands and wear gloves. Remove any dirt or small debris from the wound. Apply pressure to the wound with a sterile gauze. Do not remove the gauze or bandage, apply additional gauze as needed. Squeeze a main artery if necessary.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Pain, Redness, Bubbling of the skin
\nTreatment: Flush away chemical with cool water unless it is a powder then brush it off first. Remove contaminated clothing or jewelry. Dial Poison Control at 1.800.222.1222 and consult your MSDS binder if you are unsure about the chemicals involved. Apply a cool, wet cloth to relieve pain. Cover with a sterile gauze bandage. If burning continues you may need to rewash. Seek medical attention. Bring the chemical container or a complete description of the substance with you.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Cardiac arrest, Irregular heartbeat, Respiratory failure, Muscle pain and\/or contractions, Seizures, Numbness and\/or tingling, Unconsciousness
\nTreatment: Dial 911. Be aware that the person may still be in contact with the electrical source. Turn off the source of electricity if possible. Do not try to move a person with an electrical injury unless the person is in immediate danger. Lay the person down on his or her back with their feet higher than their head. If raising the legs will cause pain or further injury, keep him or her flat. Begin CPR if there are no signs of circulation (breathing, coughing or movement).<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Consistent blinking or watering of the eye, Pain or irritation, Redness
\nTreatment: Wash your hands. Hold the eye open while looking up and down. If the object is floating in the tear film on the surface of the eye, try flushing it out with a saline solution or clean, lukewarm water. Do not try to remove an object that is imbedded in the eyeball. Do not rub the eye. Do not try to remove a large object that makes closing the eye difficult. Seek medical attention if you cannot remove the object, have trouble seeing or pain continues after the object is removed.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Loss of consciousness
\nTreatment: Dial 911. Position the person on his or her back with their feet higher than their head. Check the person\u2019s airway to be sure it is clear. Begin CPR if there are no signs of circulation (breathing, coughing or movement). Loosen belt, collar or other constrictive clothing. The person should revive quickly.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Broken bone, Disfigured, Extreme pain, Swelling, Possible bleeding
\nTreatment: Dial 911. Stop any bleeding by applying pressure to the wound with a sterile gauze. Immobilize the injured area. Do not try to realign the bone. Apply ice packs to limit swelling and help relieve the pain. Treat for shock by having the person lay down on his or her back with their feet higher than their head. Keep the person warm and comfortable.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Hard and\/or pale skin, Numbness
\nTreatment: Get out of the cold. Warm area with lukewarm water. Do not use hot water or rub the affected area. Do not thaw area if there is a chance it could refreeze. If numbness remains seek medical attention.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Chest pain, Sweating, Shortness of breath, Nausea, Possible to have no symptoms
\nTreatment: Dial 911. If they are conscious have them chew and swallow an aspirin. If they are unconscious begin CPR. Skip the mouth-to-mouth and focus on chest compressions.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Fatigue, Headache, Heavy sweating
\nTreatment: Get out of the sun and into a cool location. Lay the person down on his or her back with their feet higher than their head. Loosen or remove the person\u2019s clothing. Have the person drink cool water. Lower the person\u2019s temperature by applying cool water and fanning. Monitor the person carefully because heat exhaustion can quickly become heatstroke. If fever reaches 102\u00ba F, or fainting, confusion or seizures occur, seek medical attention.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Drowsy, Seizures, Loss of consciousness
\nTreatment: Get into fresh air immediately. If the suspected poison is a household cleaner or other chemical, read the label and follow instructions for accidental poisoning. Dial Poison Control at 1.800.222.1222. Do not induce vomiting. If you seek medical attention, bring the chemical container or a complete description of the substance with you.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Pale skin, Weak pulse, Eyes lack luster, Loss of consciousness
\nTreatment: Dial 911. Lay the person down on his or her back with their feet higher than their head. Begin CPR if there are no signs of circulation (breathing, coughing or movement). Keep the person warm and comfortable. Loosen belt, collar or other constrictive clothing. Do not give the person anything to drink. If the person begins to vomit turn them on his or her side to prevent choking. Because shock is usually a result of an injury, be sure to treat any other injuries accordingly.<\/p>\n
\nSymptoms: Redness, Swelling, Pain, Blisters
\nTreatment: Cool the burn with cool water or aloe. Do not put ice on the burn. Cover with a sterile gauze bandage. Take a pain reliever like aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen or acetaminophen. Seek medical attention.<\/p>\n
